In this course, Denis Zhdanov provides step by step instruction on Mozart’s 12 Variations in C major, K. 265, one of the most rewarding works for late beginner and intermediate pianists.

Each variation becomes a practical lesson in a different aspect of piano playing, helping students develop a variety of technical skills while always staying connected to musical meaning.

The course places special emphasis on technical efficiency, intelligent practice methods, stylistic precision, and universal principles of expressiveness. More than just a study of one delightful Mozart piece, this course offers valuable tools for building refined technique, better playing habits, and a deeper artistic understanding that will be useful far beyond this work alone.

Mozart’s 12 Variations on “Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman” is one of the finest introductions to the art of variation form because it begins with one of the simplest and most recognizable themes imaginable and transforms it into an entire musical world. Across the twelve variations, Mozart shows how a theme can change in rhythm, texture, character, color, and emotional depth while always remaining recognizable. What begins as a clear and innocent tune gradually turns playful, brilliant, humorous, dramatic, even operatic, before ending with dazzling energy and charm. This piece is so rewarding because it is both accessible and profound: it teaches essential Classical style, invites the pianist to explore many different technical and expressive challenges, and reveals how even the simplest musical idea can become a rich and unforgettable artistic journey.

About your instructor:

I'm a Ukrainian pianist currently living in Austria, and I've had the privilege of building a strong reputation in the world of classical music. Over the years, I've achieved success in several international competitions, solidifying my position as a well-known concert performer. However, my passion doesn't stop at performing; I'm also deeply committed to teaching the piano.

As a piano teacher, I go beyond simply focusing on style and musicality. My primary goal is to help students optimize their piano-playing techniques for efficiency. I've had the pleasure of working with students from all corners of the globe, assisting them in revamping their piano techniques, relieving tension, recovering from piano-related injuries, and developing effective learning strategies. I take a comprehensive approach to piano instruction, aiming to be a valuable resource for pianists looking to improve their skills, overcome challenges, and realize their full potential.

I wish you an exciting learning experience!

Sincerely,

Denis Zhdanov
